ERADICATION OF NOSOCOMIAL PATHOGENS

BIOQUELL's system has proven effective against all the major causes of Hospital Associated Infections (HAIs) including MRSA, VRE, Acinetobacter, C.difficile and Klebsiella, as well as many other viruses and fungi.

There are a number of infection control deployment options for Room Bio-Decontamination Service (RBDS) within the hospital environment, including:

• Implant Team – a team of fully trained and equipped BIOQUELL engineers are assigned full time, establishing a routine bio-decontamination programme throughout the facility
• Scheduled – programmed bio-decontamination during scheduled shutdown
• Emergency – where urgent action is demanded for outbreak and infection control (e.g. Clostridium difficile, Acinetobacter, MRSA, Serratia, Norovirus)

To date over 50 UK hospitals have employed BIOQUELL’s RBDS in the fight against ‘super-bugs’ and in the US, a dedicated Implant Team has successfully reduced year-on-year Clostridium difficile infections by 53%. The work is being carried out at the Saint Raphael Hospital in New Haven. The trial was led by Dr John M. Boyce, Clinical Professor of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine and one of the authors of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's 2002 work, ‘Guideline for Hand Hygiene in Healthcare Settings’.

The UK government's Rapid Review Panel has also backed BIOQUELL's residue-free RBDS, recognising the effectiveness of the technology in a healthcare setting. CLARUS® HYDROGEN PEROXIDE VAPOUR (HPV) TECHNOLOGY

The computer-controlled Clarus® gas generators produce a fine hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) vapour which is distributed evenly to all exposed surfaces via a rotating nozzle. After a short dwell period, the invisible micro-condensation is evaporated during the aeration phase of the cycle, where it is converted into harmless oxygen and water leaving no residues; the whole decontamination process is undertaken quickly and safely.

Every gassing cycle is challenged using biological indicators (6-log Bacillus stearothermophilus) which are then incubated in order to verify that bio-decontamination has occurred. Scientific research has proven that it is this consistent deposition of micro-condensation which gives rise to the rapid killing of micro-organisms.

Clarus® technology is a controlled system, constantly monitoring conditions in order to optimise effectiveness. It has excellent material compatibility and is safe to use on sensitive electrical and electronic equipment. Hydrogen peroxide vapour (H2O2) is non-carcinogenic, safe and efficacious against a wide range of viruses, bacteria, and moulds, offering clear advantages over other decontaminants such as formaldehyde and chlorine dioxide systems.

The newest addition to the range of HPV generators offered by BIOQUELL is the BIOQUELL Z, a new concept in zone bio-decontamination equipment giving rapid, repeatable and reliable eradication of bio-burden from rooms, wards or entire hospitals. The key benefits of this new HPV generator include parametric controls – there is no need to outsource decontamination as the unit is designed to be simple to use and can be operated by any member of staff who has had training. The unit is mobile for rapid deployment and also has substantial zone / room sterilisation capability.
