The SaniWaste sanitary waste disposal system is the first step towards improving human waste management practices and reducing the risk of hospital acquired infections (HAIs) in Australian and New Zealand hospitals. SaniWaste offers a range of single use, disposable bedpans, urinals, kidney dishes, slipper pans and bowls that are used in conjunction with the SaniWaste macerator. The SaniWaste system offers an alternative to conventional bedpan washer systems and provides additional benefits for patients, staff and the hospital alike. Breaking the infection cycle - reducing the risk of hospital acquired infections (HAIs)Hospital acquired infections are of serious concern to hospital staff and patients, between 5% and 10% of patients acquire an infection during their admission.¹ Research indicates that infections have “been attributed to contamination from rectal thermometers, bedpans and hospital beds ”² and more recently that “ward - Washer Disinfectors did not adequately inactivate C. difficile spores even when the installation problems were corrected and the manufacturer-adjusted maximal thermal conditions were used.”³ The SaniWaste system utilises single use, disposable bedpans and urinals in conjunction with the macerator system, breaking this infection cycle, and eliminating the potential for cross-infection. Macerator process – disposable bedpan systemThe SaniWaste receptacles are made from environmentally friendly, 100% bio-degradable Australian newspapers that once placed in the macerator system, are reduced to a fine slurry which is discharged directly into the sewerage system. The macerator system can process up to four items per cycle and provides for significant water and electricity savings over conventional bedpan washer systems. Advantages of the Saniwaste system
