HD devices deliver improved image quality to medical communities.
The Dutch medical production company MASH has upgraded its video facilities from Analog Betacam / DVCPRO to High Definition (HD). With the purchase of new Sony HD equipment MASH is the only medical manufacturer in The Netherlands working with the format. While the broadcast sector is aware of the advantages provided by HD compared to other formats, in general, its use within the medical community is limited.
Commenting on its HD activities, MASH general manager and cardiologist Mr. Hooghoudt said:
"At MASH we organise continual training programs for the international cardiology community. Sophisticated imaging is of crucial importance in cardiological diagnostics, so the ongoing training for these specialist surgeons also demands perfect image quality. Additionally, our sponsors, the international pharmaceutical industry, demand the delivery of the highest-quality work. HD quality is the highest level of production available and is undoubtedly the future for medical production!"
MASH has invested in an HDW-2000 HDCAM camcorder, a BVM-D20 multi-format monitor, and an XPRI HD non-linear editing system, enabling a 100% in-house processing of HDCAM recordings, in both high and standard definition. The new system allows MASH to archive materials in an HD-quality format. In addition, due to the higher resolution - 1,080 scan lines compared to the 625 scan lines of a normal TV image - high definition production guarantees superior image quality.
"Sony has a strong heritage in broadcast technology, having developed the AV standards that in the past have proven to be successful. So when we made the move into HD production, Sony was the obvious manufacturer to work with," concluded Hooghoudt.
