Sony Launches High End Medical Monitor for Clinical Environments

Basingstoke, January 2005 – Sony today announced the availability of its latest medical-grade LCD monitor, the LMD-1950MD. This display meets stringent safety and Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards and is also suitable for use in sterile environments.
When electronic devices are located in sensitive environments like hospitals, it is vital that they are designed with ease-of-use in mind and are completely fit for their purpose. Sony's specialist range of healthcare products is engineered with the needs of clinicians in mind.
The LMD-1950MD has been designed without air vents, to prevent foreign matter from entering or exiting the unit ensuring that internal debris cannot contaminate the sterile environment. The unit also complies with VESA mounting standards and can be fixed to a surgical mount arm, which makes it ideal for operating theatres.
"In minimally invasive procedures, such as endoscopy, the display in the operating theatre is as important as the surgeon's own eyes. If the screen isn't up to the job, then patient outcomes could suffer. BRIGHT AND CLEAR
As well as meeting stringent safety and quality standards, the LMD-1950MD offers high-quality picture reproduction, selectable scan modes as well as support for a range of input signals and an easy-to-use set of controls and functions. The monitor incorporates a quality SXGA (1280 x 1024) panel to deliver high levels of brightness, contrast and colour depth. In addition to the Sony X-Algorithm technology for IP conversion, the monitor incorporates full 10bit digital video signal processing, which enables the unit to deliver natural images with accurate colour reproduction. Video signals are also reproduced at an extremely high resolution of 700 TV lines, providing detailed images – an essential requirement for endoscopic applications.
Selectable scan sizes are available with the LMD-1950MD. The options are 20% over scan, normal scan (7% over scan), -3% under scan, full scan, native scan and zoom. Native scan mode is available when displaying images generated by High Definition (HD) signals (1080i/720p). This mode performs pixel-to-pixel mapping without scaling when processing HD signals to provide a native HD image on the monitor. The centre area of the image is displayed on the monitor.
The LMD-1950MD also supports a wide variety of input formats, ranging from SD to HD video, as well as PC signals via its DVI-D or HD15 connectors. In addition to its standard inputs, five different optional input adapters are available for use in its two expansion slots. This gives users the flexibility to connect multiple signal sources from a variety of equipment. The user needs only to select the relevant input device via the monitor's easy-to-use front control panel.
The unit affords operational convenience. Its user memory function allows up to 20 picture settings to be saved in the memory, enabling doctors to set, save and recall their preferred picture settings.
