Launch of PDW-75MD provides double capacity recording capability for unprecedented HD image workflow in healthcare

Sony today revealed its latest full 1440x1080 HD video recorder for medical professionals. Fully compliant with medical safety standards, the PDW-75MD features a number of new functions that enhance HD workflow, including dual layer professional disc and a Clip continuous REC function.

The PDW-75MD accepts both 23.3GB single layer discs and 50GB dual layer discs to enable medical professionals to realise more than double the recording time from a single layer disc. In addition to capturing more content on each disc, the new Clip continuous REC function accelerates the process of accessing information by empowering users to tag critical scenes with 'essence markers' throughout a larger single recording and even without a PC, these can be reviewed and edited on the unit.

Any recording on the PDW-75MD Professional Disc can be accessed instantly through thumbnail indexes displayed on the unit's 16:9 LCD colour screen, meaning valuable time saved from fast forwarding and rewinding content.

"With its fast archiving and smarter functionality, the PDW-75MD is a future-proof HD recording solution for any healthcare professional," said Felip Garcia, European product manager at Sony Europe. "Not only does it require fewer discs to record and store more superior images, it also makes editing that content easier and faster, which is critical for any medical facility."

Designed to offer the lowest total system cost in its class, a Professional Disc can be reused for 10,000 rewrite cycles and is readily available for from various suppliers. It will also retain information stored as data files for 50 years in normal conditions, reducing the need for an expensive IT-storage system to store, retrieve and manage archived material.

Built to be flexible, the PDW-75MD supports existing standards such as DV/DVCAM for work with existing non-linear editors and open standards such as MXF for compatibility with new generation NLEs. New functions also include: Memory Stick Pro for version up; trigger recording over HD-SDI; and improved down-converter quality.
