Joel Diamond, MD brings wealth of clinical and technology experience to growing healthcare technology vendor

dbMotion, an award-winning provider of healthcare information integration software that facilitates interoperability and Health Information Exchange (HIE), today announced the appointment of Joel Diamond, MD as Chief Medical Officer, North America. In this role his extensive clinical and technology experience will contribute to the development of dbMotion's offerings for the North American healthcare market.

Dr Diamond is – and will continue to be - a partner at Diamond, Fera and Associates, a family medicine practice in Pittsburgh, PA. He formerly served as CMIO and chairman of the Physician Advisory Board at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, St. Margaret Memorial Hospital, where he helped achieve 100 percent adoption of CPOE in a community hospital. This is one of the first such successes in the United States.

In addition, Dr Diamond is president of Associates in Technology, a professional services firm that assists healthcare organizations with clinical information technology. A wide range of clients included physician organizations, state medical societies and IT vendors including Misys Healthcare. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice and a fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr Diamond graduated from medical school at the State University of New York, Health Science Center at Syracuse in 1988, and completed his residency in family medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), St. Margaret Memorial Hospital in 1991.

"Dr Diamond is not only one of the nation's leading family physicians, but a well-known and well-respected technology authority," said Peter van der Grinten, general manager, US and Canada for dbMotion. "We are honored to have him on our team and look forward to leveraging his vast clinical and technology expertise."

The dbMotion™ Solution is a web-based data-sharing technology that helps facilitate health information exchange for Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs) and Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs). Based on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), it gives these organizations secure access to select components of patient medical files maintained at facilities that are otherwise unconnected or have no common technology through which to share data.

This is accomplished by creating a "virtual patient record" that integrates relevant patient medical information and makes it available to applications and caregivers at the point-of-care. The dbMotion Solution has been implemented in demanding environments for the past six years – serving millions of patients and integrating billions of individual records of clinical information.

"This is an exciting time for information technology in healthcare, and I believe the dbMotion Solution represents what will soon be an industry standard," said Dr Diamond.
