Binding Site - Immunodiagnostics for Autoimmune Disease, Primary Immunodeficiency and B-Cell Abnormalities

Binding Site specialises in the research, development and manufacture of innovative, high-quality, immunodiagnostic assays in the fields of autoimmune disease, Multiple Myeloma (MM) and other B-cell disorders, and investigation of the immune response.

Together with automated systems and infectious disease tests from partner companies, Binding Site offers complete packages that can improve laboratory efficiency in pathology, immunology and biochemistry.

AUTOIMMUNE AND INFECTIOUS DISEASE AUTOMATED TEST SYSTEMS

Binding Site supplies both two and four-plate fully-automated ELISA processors. These provide true walk-away automation, allowing laboratory staff to perform other duties whilst the assays are running. Instrument software is easy to use so assay set-up, programming and running of the automated system is as user-friendly as possible.

Modular design enables both easy installation and future upgrades. DSX™ and DS2™ ELISA processors are supplied as part of a Binding Site package with autoimmune and infectious disease assays that are formatted for easy automation.

Autoimmune ELISAs include BINDAZYME™ kits for diagnosis and monitoring of systemic rheumatic and connective tissue diseases (e.g. SLE), autoimmune vasculitis, antiphospholipid syndrome, coeliac (celiac) disease and inflammatory bowel disease. Infectious disease kits include TORCH, and common community-acquired viral and mycoplasma pneumoniae infections.

ASP™ AUTOMATED IFA SLIDE PROCESSOR

The ASP1200 is capable of providing true walk-away automation for Immuno-Fluorescence Assays (IFA) – such as HEp-2, ANCA, and rat and mouse tissues – which are used in the diagnosis of autoimmune-mediated diseases. Binding Site package this instrument together with optimised and validated protocols for autoimmune IFA, giving you efficient, high-performance testing.

The ASP1200 utilises a space-saving design and incorporates proven technology, making it both highly reliable and suitable for any size of laboratory.

MONOCLONAL GAMMOPATHY DIAGNOSIS AND MONITORING

Freelite serum free light chain analysis is a major breakthrough for the detection and monitoring of MM (a cancer of cells in the bone marrow), and other B-cell abnormalities.

Binding Site's expertise in the manufacture of antibodies has enabled them to provide a quantifiable, highly specific, automatable, serum test for free kappa and free lambda immunoglobulin light chains.

There is now significant clinical evidence indicating the benefit of Freelite serum free light chain assays for diagnosis and monitoring of plasma cell dyscrasia – especially in the initial screening investigation of light-chain Bence-Jones Proteins (BJP), non-secretory multiple myeloma and AL amyloidosis. Other published applications include prognosis for multiple myeloma patients, risk stratification of MGUS patients and rapid evaluation of treatment efficacy.

These new assays:

  • Provide better and earlier information to haematologists and nephrologists
  • Offer a higher sensitivity test for biochemistry and immunology laboratories
  • Improve patient management
  • Could result in cost savings on patient care

Freelite serum assays are more sensitive than conventional urine methods (BJP). When used alongside traditional serum methods, such as Serum Protein Electrophoresis (SPE), for M-protein or paraprotein detection, Freelite plus SPE shows show a higher detection rate than SPE alone.

PRIMARY IMMUNODEFICIENCY DIAGNOSIS ASSAYS AND IGG SUBCLASS MEASUREMENT

Identification of immuno-deficient patients, whose immune system has failed to respond to infections, is essential in order to provide effective treatment for those (often paediatric) patients, for example therapeutic immunoglobulins or specific vaccinations. Binding Site assays to aid diagnosis of primary immunodeficiency include measurement of IgG subclasses, complement proteins, tetanus toxoid, diphtheria toxoid, pneumococcal capsular polysaccharide and haemophilus influenzae type b IgG.

Worldwide customer support is provided from Binding Site's offices in the UK, USA, Germany, France and Spain, and by an extensive network of experienced distributor companies in other countries.
