The conversion from glass to plastic blood collection tubes has made daily routine work for medical staff a lot easier and, above all, safer. Up until now just measurement of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) was still carried out in glass tubes.

This one last safety risk is now history. The product experts at Greiner Bio-One have developed a new evacuated blood collection tube for ESR analysis manufactured from virtually unbreakable polypropylene plastic. In addition to this main benefit, the tube has further advantages. The surface of the new material features qualities for better mixing of the sample. To ensure a correct fill volume there is a minimum-maximum level mark on the transparent plastic label, which furthermore allows for an immediate optical control of the sample’s consistency.

In combination with the VACUETTE® MultiMixer, also new, the tube is a contribution to safe, efficient ESR analysis. In comparison to the previously used instrument, the new MultiMixer has the advantage that the tube racks can be removed simply from the mixer arm with the aid of the click mechanism. The mixer can be used as required to mix the new 9mm PP tubes, standard tubes with 13mm diameter or both tube types at the same time.
