Professor James Buchan is based at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health Care, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, UK. He is also an associate fellow at the Kings Fund, London, and visiting professor at the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia.
Professor Buchan has 20 years’ experience of practice, consultancy and policy research on health sector HR. His work has included policy advice on the HR implications of health sector reorganisation and healthcare reform, cross-national comparisons of HR policy and practice in healthcare, national-level consultancy on health sector HR policy and planning in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia, as well as policy research on trends and the impact of healthworker migration.
He has directed projects for a range of national and international clients, including the World Health Organisation, the International Council of Nurses and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
