Interventions for Preventing Falls in Older People in Nursing Care Facilities and Hospitals

This white paper explains why effective interventions are important to prevent falls among older people in nursing care facilities and hospitals.

It includes a review of 41 trials involving 25,422 participants, of which, many had cognitive problems.

The review results showed that interventions to prevent falls were effective when provided by a coordinated team of health workers.

In addition, among patients who are in hospital for more than a few weeks, interventions targeting multiple risk factors and supervised exercise are effective.
