Planning for Scale: A Guide to Designing Large-Scale Improvement Initiatives
03 March 2010In the past, large-scale voluntary initiatives have been taken up by various countries with the prime objective of enhancing the quality and safety of their healthcare systems. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement's (IHI) involvement in these initiatives helped it to gain an understanding of the complexities involved.
This paper by IHI aims to support healthcare practitioners and organisations planning to take effective healthcare practices from one setting or isolated environment and to make them available and accessible across a health care system, region, state or nation.
IHI has generated a list of questions for those contemplating multistakeholder improvement initiatives related to motivation, foundation, aim, nature of the intervention, nature of the social system and network building.
