EDAP Completes First Stage of Ultrasound Trial

28 October 2010

EDAP TMS said that it has successfully completed the first phase of clinical study evaluating high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technology in patients with metastatic liver cancer.

The technology uses a high-intensity convergent ultrasound beam to ablate liver cancer tumours.

The study enrolled six patients who were treated successfully with the tool.

The company plans to initiate a second clinical phase, involving a larger number of patients, to further validate the performance of HIFU in the treatment of liver cancer.
