The Austrailian state of Tasmania is planning to establish three local hospital networks (LHNs) under the federal government's health reforms.
The LHNs will appoint their own CEOs, have their own governing councils, and will have more autonomy, responsibility and accountability for delivering services to their communities.
The networks are designed to provide greater local control of hospital management, offer more public information about how the hospital is faring and improve services.
Minister for Health Michelle O’Byrne said the introduction of local hospital networks were key to the national health reforms.
"The Premier is writing to the Prime Minister today advising her of Tasmania's decision and a final agreement will be settled by the end of the month," O’Byrne said.
