Sweden Awards Construction Contract for New Radiotherapy Clinic

14 June 2011

NCC Construction Sweden has been awarded the contract to construct the Nordic region's first clinic for advanced radiotherapy using proton treatment in Uppsala.

The contract is valued at SEK470m ($76m).

The new 13,500m² Skandion Clinic will include a treatment facility, a patient hotel with about 90 rooms and a restaurant.

Instead of traditional radiotherapy using X-ray radiation or electron radiation, treatments at the Skandion Clinic will use protons.

Johan Wiberg, NCC construction manager for the Stockholm / Mälardalen region, said, "The technology and equipment being deployed at the clinic requires advanced construction technology and considerable craftsmanship. "Our visualisation programme, which features the construction documents in 3D, clearly shows the building’s design and construction process."

Construction will commence this month and is scheduled for completion in May 2014.
