Northern Ontario Heritage Fund has granted $100,000 to Canada-based RNA Diagnostics to conduct further research into the development of a medical tool that assesses the effectiveness of chemotherapy in patients.
The move follows the McGuinty Government's plan to improve the quality of life of cancer patients.
The diagnostic assay is designed to identify whether chemotherapy is the proper treatment approach for breast-cancer patients or if an alternative therapy is needed.
Sudbury Regional Hospital Regional Cancer Program affiliate scientist Amadeo Parissenti, who developed the tool, said it can help oncologists determine if the chemotherapy that breast cancer patients are being given is helping them.
