NHGRI funds DNA sequencing technology development

26 August 2011

National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) has granted Stratos Genomics $829,000 to develop DNA sequencing techniques using Expansion technology.

Stratos will use the funds to further develop its ultra-low-cost nucleic acid sequencing method for whole genome analysis and molecular diagnostics.

In total the NHGRI, part of the US National Institutes of Health, awarded $14m to nine qualifying research organisations to support the development of revolutionary DNA sequencing technologies.

NHGRI director Eric Green said they are confident that grantees will continue to make major breakthroughs in the development of technologies that will sequence a human genome for $1,000 or less.
