New EHR System to Connect 14 Hospitals in US

03 July 2009

Portneuf Medical Center (PMC) in the US is building one of the largest electronic health record (EHR) systems in the country, which will connect 14 hospitals across Eastern Idaho.

The new EHR system will link the region's medical providers enabling them to share patients' records and electronic images, PMC officials said.

Greater interoperability and access to patient history would give providers a better understanding of patient health trends, enable them to make informed decisions and prescribe the right medicines during emergencies.

The hospital has requested $3.8m in stimulus money to develop the new EHR system and an additional $2.25m to be paid over three years in federal money, idahostatejournal.com reports.
