IBM will deploy its data management technology in a group of hospitals in southern Guangdong province in China, to standardise patient records and perform statistical analyses of traditional Chinese treatments.
The technology will enable the doctors to go through the statistical analyses and identify treatment plans that combine traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine.
IBM Healthcare Solutions Lab healthcare solution manager Hou Xueqiao said the technology focuses on how to process and manage patient data, and enable all kinds of analytics to leverage the very valuable information within electronic medical records.
Clinical and Health Records Analytics and Sharing (CHAS) will be deployed at Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine by the end of this year, and would cost $2-3m for each hospital.
IBM hopes that the technology will provide evidence for effectiveness of non-Western medicine and, if successful, it will replicate the same technology in India and other countries where traditional treatments exist.
