Varian and IMRIS to Develop MR-Guided Radiation Therapy System

7 October 2010

Varian Medical Systems and IMRIS have agreed to co-develop an MR-guided radiation therapy system to treat cancer.

The companies will develop the new system by combining IMRIS' MRI technology and Varian's TrueBeam system.

The new system will allow the high-field MRI scanner to be moved in and out of the radiation therapy room, and will be able to improve the precision of tumour location before and during treatment.

IMRIS chairman and CEO David Graves said by combining IMRIS' image guided capabilities with the scale and scope of Varian's operations, there is a significant opportunity to extend the benefits of MRI to radiation treatment rooms around the world.
