Canadian hospital to improve medication safety with MetaCare products

2 August 2012

Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH), an acute care facility in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, has chosen Meta Healthcare IT Solution's MetaCare products to enhance medication safety.

MetaCare provides the 135-bed hospital with an array of modules to properly monitor medication orders, document interventions and support enterprise objectives from order inception to delivery of medications to the bedside.

CCH pharmacist and pharmacy project manager Michel St-Onge said MetaCare's technical functionality will enable the launch of CCH's automated medication distribution system later in 2012.

"The system will also provide the pharmacists with improved support through a comprehensive screening tool in order to prevent drug interactions or dosage errors," St-Onge added.

MetaCare solutions streamline order entry, support documentation, improve workflows and productivity, reduce patient errors and improve patient outcomes.

The products have been deployed in a variety of facilities across the US and Canada, including acute care, long-term care, behavioural health and rehabilitation facilities, and addiction treatment centres, according to Meta.

Meta CEO Sal Barcia said Cornwall hospital expressed a strong interest in medication safety initiatives during the selection process.

"In addition to our industry-leading medication error reduction capability, our integration with automated medication dispensing systems will help improve workflow at this prestigious hospital," Barcia added.
