US-based Community Health Network is set to invest around $175m to expand facilities in the east region of Indianapolis.

The expansion will be carried out in two phases, which will include the renovation of Community Hospital East and the development of three new health pavilions in the city over the next few years.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard said: "Community Health Network has been committed to the east-side of Indianapolis since opening its first hospital there in 1956."

"We’re much more than a hospital. We’re striving to provide access to the care east region residents need in order to avoid trips to the hospital."

Community Hospital East’s renovation will be carried out in phase one and will cover expanding the emergency department by around 17,000ft² and increasing the number of patient rooms to 64.

The first phase also includes renovation of the imaging department and upgrades to the hospital’s electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Additionally, two new health pavilions will be constructed with one to be in Beech Grove, and a campus building will be removed in 2016.

Phase two will focus on renovation works for inpatient surgery suites and the building of an additional health pavilion in the east side of the city.

Community Health Network president and CEO Bryan Mills said: "We want our communities to know that, as we like to say, ‘We’re here. For good.

"That means Community will remain firmly rooted on the hospital campus where our story began, with a facility redesigned for the future of healthcare. But it also means we’re much more than a hospital. We’re striving to provide access to the care east region residents need in order to avoid trips to the hospital."

Phase one works are due to commence this autumn, according to Community Health Network.
