The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust in the UK has implemented a clinical patient data portal for paperless access to patient data.
CSC and Harris Healthcare integrated and implemented the portal, which is based on the CareFX platform owned by Harris, Computerworld UK reported.
A consultant haematologist at the trust, Professor Patrick Chu, said that the clinical portal implemented at the clinic allows clinicians to have a view of the case notes on the screen without needing to flick through all pages in the notes.
"For a three and a half to four hours clinic I can save 30 minutes of time so I can use that time to either see more patients or new patients," Chu added.
The portal, which can be viewed on any device, allows clinicians to view patient information including test results, medical images and correspondence stored on a variety of systems in a single view.
According to the trust, the portal has decreased clinic times, improved patient safety and enabled significant cost savings due to a reduced reliance on paper processes.
The trust is working on providing access to related information to the general practitioners and patients.
