Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, US, has opened a new neurosurgical centre for the treatment of brain tumours.

The Unity System will use technologies such as Brainlab Brainsuite, VISIUS Surgical Theatre and TrueBeam STx with Novalis Radiosurgery to help medical experts care for patients.

Saint Thomas Brain and Spine Tumor Center neurosurgeon and co-medical director Steven Abram said: "This new system provides a comprehensive approach to cancer care, not only through collaboration with other clinicians but also through the most advanced technologies."

Brainlab president and CEO Stefan Vilsmeier added: "The real game-changer here is the ability to capture images during surgery, which can then be processed and leveraged in critical decision-making for the well-being of the patient."

The hospital said that the brain care centre will treat medical conditions, such as neoplasms of the brain, spine and central nervous system, cerebrovascular disorders, central nervous system and cranial nerve abnormalities.

Saint Thomas Hospital, a 541 acute care bed health care facility, is a member of Saint Thomas Health, a not-for-profit health care system.
