Four new bedside furniture designs have been trialled on wards in eight hospitals across England to help tackle healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs).

The new designs are for a patient chair, a bedside cabinet, an over-bed table and a commode.

Cheryl Etches, chief nursing officer at Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, said that the new designs make the patient’s bedside environment easier to clean, benefitting patients and staff.

Trusts that trialled the new designs included Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust.
