NHS Trust reports savings with SMART workforce management

Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based in the UK, has implemented Kronos's SMART workforce management solution.

"With the SMART workforce management solution, the trust anticipates savings of £1.2m during a three year period."

SMART enables health organisations to meet patient quality care objectives, including the quality, innovation, productivity and prevention agenda in England, by optimising their staff.

With the SMART workforce management solution, the trust anticipates savings of £1.2m during a three year period.

Ian Child, Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust financial controller, said both staff and nurses are aware of the benefits of automated e-rostering.

"For example, the system has brought to light £100,000 of over taken annual leave which we have been able to rectify," Child added.

"There are fewer payroll errors and our highly talented clinicians are free to dedicate the majority of their precious time to delivering the best possible care to patients in the region."

The 3,150 staff together, with 1,500 nurses, currently use SMART e-Rostering and time and attendance, while all non-medical staff members are expected to be covered by the system by the end of the current financial year. The trust anticipates moving doctors onto e-Rostering in the next phase of the project.

Kronos Solution SMART director Tristan Spencer said: "Both staff and Trust benefit from the transparency and fairness of a central system that enforces policy and treats all staff equally, leading to improved staff retention and better care for patients."
