Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) in the US will deploy Orion Health's health information exchange (HIE) solution as part of its $1.5bn OneCare Universal Health Record initiative.
The HIE will allow CHI physicians and clinicians to access and exchange patient information, coordinate patient care and update patient records across its 100 facilities in 19 different states.
Catholic Health Initiatives senior vice president and chief nursing officer Kathleen Sanford said, "The CHI HIE will give our clinicians access to complete patient records, which will benefit Catholic Health Initiatives' patients in a noticeable way through streamlined care processes, better-informed diagnoses and improved coordination of care."
The solution will also connect CHI to several state HIEs in its service area and the US government's Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIN).
The health solution is likely to complete HIE deployment in all of the initiative's 76 hospitals and affiliated centres by June 2015.
The OneCare programme aims to create a shared, universal health record for patients served in over 400,000 hospital admissions and nearly five million physician office visits annually across the CHI.
