The South East Weight Loss Surgical Centre at BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital in the UK has received a Bariatric Surgery Centre of Excellence accreditation from the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO).
The recognition is based on the hard work of the surgical centre's consultant bariatric surgeon Shamsi El-Hasani and the bariatric team in achieving sustained, long-term results for its patients, the hospital said.
Mr El-Hasani said the accreditation highlights the expertise, experience and dedication of the hospital's team.
"We hope that this accreditation will lend support, both to the South East Weight Loss Surgical Centre and BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital, but also to the field of bariatric surgery itself," El-Hasani added.
"Deciding when and where to have surgery can be a difficult choice but this recognition will place BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital on the map as a centre of excellence in the UK and internationally."
As part of the accreditation, BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital had to demonstrate excellence in its facilities and infrastructure and show that each patient is provided with on-site critical care, psychological assessment, experienced anaesthetists and interventional radiologists.
The hospital also had to demonstrate that it had made considerable investment into the equipment and furniture available throughout the hospital.
BMI executive director Ruth Hoadley said meeting the IFSO accreditation criteria demonstrates the hospital's commitment to the highest standards in bariatric patient care.
"At BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital we believe that all our patients deserve access to the highest standards of care backed by the highest standards of medical expertise," Hoadley added.
