Researchers at the University of Leicester in the UK have developed a new wristwatch device to monitor blood pressure in collaboration with HealthStats, a Singaporean biotechnology company.

The device uses a sensor, worn on the wrist, to record pulse waves. Scientists can the use computerised mathematical modelling of the waves to read blood pressure close to the heart.

The research programme was funded by the Department of Health’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

Researchers said that patients who have been tested with the new device found it comfortable and easy to use.
