Azim Premji University, a Indian non-profit private university located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, is planning to set up a hospital and a medical college as part of the University at Ranchi, Jharkhand, reported The Hindu Business Line citing Azim Premji during the 11th Convocation of the university.

A new Master’s programme in Public Health is also planned to be launched at the Azim Premji University’s campus in Bhopal in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Premji was quoted by the news publication as saying that the Azim Premji University’s Bhopal campus is already operational with more than 200 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

“This network of universities will play a pivotal role in nurturing young leaders dedicated to driving social change,” Premji added.

The university, which entered public health two years ago, currently operates three health centres in low-income settlements in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

This year, it plans to launch additional centres.

Premji added: “We also started our health work in the field, beginning with the Dharamjaigarh block in Chhattisgarhand this work will also grow to other regions in the central belt of the country.

“We are starting a new ‘Master’s in Public Health’ programme at Bhopal and are looking at setting up a hospital and a medical college as part of the University at Ranchi.”

Currently, the university is focusing on addressing the significant learning loss experienced during the pandemic by the students.
