Top ten largest hospitals in Nevada by bed size in 2021

Hospital Management has listed Nevada's ten largest hospitals based on numbers of beds as of last year, using GlobalData’s research.

The city of Las Vegas is home to seven of Nevada’s ten largest general hospitals. Of the state’s remaining top three hospitals, two are in Reno and one is in Henderson.

1. Renown Regional Medical Centre – 808 beds

The Renown Regional Medical Centre in Reno is Nevada’s largest hospital, with 808 inpatient beds. It is the flagship hospital campus of non-profit healthcare network Renown Health.

Affiliated with the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine, the multi-speciality teaching hospital is designated as a Level II trauma centre. It is also home to the Renown Children’s Hospital, the only full-service paediatric hospital in northern Nevada.

Renown Regional Medical Centre handles more than 80,000 emergency visits, performs more than 28,000 surgeries and delivers more than 4,000 babies each year. It is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart and kidney failure, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, maternity care, stroke management and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

2. Sunrise Hospital and Medical Centre – 762 beds

The Sunrise Hospital and Medical Centre in Las Vegas is the second largest hospital in Nevada, with 762 inpatient beds. It is the flagship campus of Sunrise Health System, an affiliate of multi-state healthcare company HCA Healthcare.

The medical and surgical facility provides inpatient and outpatient services across a wide range of specialities, including emergency care, neurology, cardiology and surgical oncology.

Sunrise Hospital and Medical Centre is designated as a Level II trauma centre and serves as the largest acute care facility in southern Nevada. It also houses the Sunrise Children’s Hospital, the state’s largest children’s hospital, which has a 72-bed Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and a 24-bed paediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

3. University Medical Centre of Southern Nevada – 541 beds

The University Medical Centre of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas is a 541-bed non-profit government hospital and academic medical centre affiliated with the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

The full-service acute care facility is designated as Nevada’s only Level I trauma centre. It is also home to the state’s only verified burn care, transplant and paediatric trauma centre.

University Medical Centre of Southern Nevada is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart attack and failure, stroke management, COPD and pneumonia. The medical centre also includes the UMC Children’s Hospital, which is recognised as one of Nevada’s best and most comprehensive children’s hospitals.

4. Summerlin Hospital Medical Centre – 485 beds

The Summerlin Hospital Medical Centre is a 485-bed general medical and surgical facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is the largest hospital of The Valley Health System, a network of six acute care hospitals in southern Nevada that are owned and operated by Pennsylvania-based company Universal Health Services.

Operational since 1997, the full-service acute care hospital specialises in cancer, cardiovascular, orthopaedic, women’s and children’s health, and emergency care among other clinical areas. It is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart failure and stroke management.

5. MountainView Hospital – 425 beds

The MountainView Hospital in Las Vegas is a general acute care facility and teaching hospital with 425 licensed beds. It is owned and operated by Sunrise Health, an affiliate of HCA Healthcare.

The medical and surgical facility is linked to the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine and known for clinical excellence in cardiovascular and thoracic care, robotic surgery, urology, gynaecology, orthopaedics, and inpatient rehabilitation services. It is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart failure and stroke management.

6. St Mary’s Regional Medical Centre – 380 beds

The St Mary’s Regional Medical Centre is a 380-bed general acute care hospital in Reno. It is part of Prime Healthcare, a health system that operates 45 hospitals in 14 US states.

The multi-speciality medical and surgical facility is recognised for clinical expertise in emergency care, cancer treatment, cardiology, and neurovascular and comprehensive stroke care services. It is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart attack, heart failure and stroke management.

7. Spring Valley Hospital Medical Centre – 364 beds

The Spring Valley Hospital Medical Centre in Las Vegas is a general medical and surgical facility with 364 beds. It is part of The Valley Health System hospital network.

The full-service acute care hospital specialises in open-heart surgery, maternity services and wound care among other clinical areas. It also houses a Level III NICU and is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to stroke management.

8. Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Centre – 336 beds

Also located in Las Vegas and part of The Valley Health System is the Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Centre, a general acute care hospital with 336 beds.

The multi-speciality medical and surgical facility serves both the Las Vegas and North Las Vegas communities and provides inpatient care across a wide range of clinical areas, including cardiology, oncology, neurology and comprehensive women’s health services.

Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Centre is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart failure, stroke management and maternity care.

9. St Rose Dominican Hospitals-Siena Campus – 326 beds

The St Rose Dominican Hospitals-Siena Campus is a 326-bed general acute care hospital in Henderson, Nevada. It is run by Dignity Health-St Rose Dominican, a division of non-profit health system Dignity Health.

The full-service medical and surgical facility has been operational since 2000. It is recognised for expertise in robotic surgery and rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart attack, heart failure, colon and prostate cancer.

10. Valley Hospital Medical Centre – 306 beds

The Valley Hospital Medical Centre in Las Vegas is a general medical and surgical facility and teaching hospital with 306 inpatient beds. It is one of the six acute care hospitals run by The Valley Health System in southern Nevada.

The multi-speciality hospital is designated as an advanced comprehensive stroke and chest pain centre. It is also rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart failure, stroke management and uterine cancer surgery.
