Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has approved construction of an 850-bedded multispeciality hospital and medical college in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

According to Punemirror news report, the construction of the new health care facility will help in sharing the burden of the overcrowded Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH).

The Covid-19 patients from areas including Khed, Junnar, Ambegaon, Maval will be able to avail treatment at the PCMC-run hospital.

Depending on the current infrastructure and manpower at the YCMH, the decision to construct a new hospital was taken to provide an alternative option in the city.

Moshi-Chikhali Housing Society Federation secretary Sanjeevan Sangale said: “The new hospital is much needed in the region as the entire population cannot depend on YCMH.

“The cities of Pimpri-Chinchwad have developed by leaps and bounds, and along with it, the population here has also increased manifold times.

“Mostly people from the extended villages of Pimpri-Chinchwad come in huge numbers at YCMH to avail treatment, due to which the hospital is always overcrowded.

“During Covid-19 outbreak, everyone learned that the healthcare infrastructure has to be upgraded and we need more hospitals like YCMH. The new hospital will help citizens to avail quality healthcare and that too free of cost.”

The multispeciality hospital will be built on an area of two hectares in Chikali village, Pune.
