Acadia Healthcare has opened a new behavioral health facility in Reading, Pennsylvania, US, as part of its joint venture with Tower Health.

Named Tower Behavioral Health, the new facility will start accepting patients from today.

Initially, the facility will include a general psychiatric unit which will provide acute inpatient care for adults aged 18 years and above. A mood disorders unit will be added to cater to adults, after the opening of the facility.

The partners intend to further expand Tower Behavioral Health with age-appropriate units for children and adolescents next year, among others. The facility will have 144 inpatient beds when fully operational.

Overall, it will deliver inpatient psychiatric care for children, adolescents, adults and seniors, along with partial hospitalisation and intensive outpatient programmes.

The treatment centre will additionally provide dual diagnosis services, outpatient counseling, physician services and consultations.

Tower Behavioral Health will accept patients suffering from mental health concerns such as anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The facility will also serve patients with a primary mental health diagnosis and a co-occurring substance use disorder.

Acadia Healthcare CEO Debbie Osteen said: “Acadia is pleased to be partnering with a leading health system like Tower Health to provide these critically needed services in southeastern Pennsylvania.

“Working together, we will be able to integrate physical and mental healthcare to improve the overall health of patients. This new facility will play a vital role in the local community and have a significant positive impact on individuals and families throughout the area for many years to come.”

The new facility is expected to boost the number of inpatient beds and also enable effective engagement for providers.

Last month, Post Acute Medical announced plans to build a 60-bed behavioral health hospital at Sugarland, Texas in the US.
