The Republic of Benin Ministry of Health has entered a contract with a consortium led by Bouygues Bâtiment International to develop and construct university hospital in Abomey-Calavi.

Valued at €175m, the 40,000m², two-level facility will have a capacity for 434 beds and places. The hospital is set to house six large hospitalisation units.

Bouygues Construction added that the technical platform will involve three day hospitals, A&E unit, laboratory, medical imaging, radiotherapy and nine operating theatres.

The project will also see build of teaching areas, staff accommodation, a mortuary and medical, catering and technical logistics spaces. It is expected that the new university hospital in Benin will be handed over in 2023.

Bouygues noted that the design of this new facility was made in a consortium with the French architecture firm Michel Beauvais Associés.

This is based on a programme conducted by the Paris Public Hospital Authority (AP-HP) and design firms Egis Bâtiments International, Claire Planson and Oasiis.
