US-based independent, not-for-profit cancer care provider CARTI is set to expand its Little Rock campus with the construction of an on-site surgery centre.

The new CARTI Surgery Center will be constructed next to the existing flagship centre on CARTI Way.

The 35,000ft2 facility will feature four operating rooms with advanced technologies, two procedure rooms, eight private overnight rooms, 12 recovery rooms and 15 pre- and post-op rooms.

Designed by Cromwell Architects Engineers, it will offer extended stay capabilities and advanced surgical care including CARTI’s multi-specialty surgical department that includes fellowship-trained oncologic surgeons who will provide management of all types of cancers.

CARTI president and CEO Adam Head said: “The CARTI Surgery Centre is a continuation of our commitment to the cancer patients of Arkansas – it’s the next logical step in our mission to transform cancer care in the state.

“By bringing a cancer-focused, innovative surgery centre to our campus, we are able to improve the patient experience and outcome, while offering a more convenient and comprehensive alternative for our patients.

“With a singular focus on compassionately treating cancer in the most technologically-advanced surgical setting, the CARTI Surgery Centre will be unlike anything currently available in the region.”

The two-storey surgery facility is expected to become the second largest construction project since the completion of Little Rock cancer centre in 2015.

Construction work on the project is expected to commence this year with completion expected by next year.

CARTI chief medical director and head and neck oncologic surgeon Dr Scott Stern said: “With the most advanced surgical technologies at our fingertips, we will be able to expand the range of surgical procedures we can provide to our patients.”
