Clark Construction Group has delivered an Alternate Care Facility (ACF) in Chicago to treat Covid-19 patients.

The company was earlier contracted by the US Army Corps of Engineers to transform the MetroSouth Medical Center into an ACF.

The converted facility now comprises 585 surge beds, including 265 high acuity beds for critically ill patients.

Overall, the scope of works included revamping the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) and equipping single-patient rooms with negative pressure isolation units to meet infection control requirements.

Furthermore, the medical gas systems were reactivated to serve critical Covid-19 patients who require ventilators.

The project team also ensured that other critical hospital systems and infrastructure including telecommunications, nurse call, electrical service and water service, are operational.

The project work, which involved several other partners, was completed in 22 days. Perkins and Will worked as the designer, while MEP engineer Salas O’Brien, Hill Mechanical, Titan Electric, RG Construction, and Consolidated Flooring were also associated with the project.

Clark Construction Chicago office CEO David Trolian said: “Clark is honoured to serve our community in such a meaningful way during these unprecedented times.

“Delivering this project within the 26-day window required a full commitment from everyone involved.

“We are grateful to our project partners for their heartfelt dedication to meeting the mission. This is a testament to what is possible when our industry comes together and rolls up its sleeves to support the community.”
