The Government of Egypt is all set to build a new hospital specialised in gynaecology and paediatrics in Djibouti.

Egypt Health Minister Hala Zayed said that the layout of the new hospital has been completed.

Zayed said: “A specialised obstetrics and gynaecology hospital will be built in the African country following directives by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to secure medical needs for the people of Djibouti.”

Zawya reported that the new hospital will cover more than 8,000m3 of area and feature an emergency and intensive care unit, children’s operating rooms, and women’s operating rooms.

Additionally, the it will have outpatient clinics, pregnancy and childbirth follow-up clinics, along with a radiology department and a laboratory.

Other facilities include a water treatment plant, a power station, and a station for disposing medical waste safely.

The government is also planning to build a nursing school and ambulance unit, which will be attached to the hospital.

Last September, UK-based architectural design and engineering firm Foster + Partners announced the start of construction of the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Centre Cairo in Egypt.

The new 300-bed cardiac hospital is part of the Aswan Heart Centre founded by Egyptian surgeon Magdi Yacoub and provides free treatment for patients in Egypt and sub-Saharan Africa regions.

It is located near the Zewail City of Science and Technology and houses diagnosis and treatment facilities on the ground floor.

The facilities include an accident and emergency department, an outpatient clinic and rehabilitative departments. The surgical department and intensive care units are co-located.
