Evelina London Children’s Hospital has plans to expand with a new building for providing more care and treatment to children and young individuals.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, along with its development partner Linkcity, has submitted the expansion plans for approval from Lambeth Council.

The new hospital building, which is expected to be delivered in six years, will join the existing children’s facility opened in 2005. Since the opening, the number of patients from London and the South-East has increased two-fold.

With the new building, the hospital aims to reduce waiting times and integrate services to enhance patient experience and outcomes.

Subject to consultation, the plan is to move children’s services from Royal Brompton Hospital to the new hospital facility, expanding heart and lung services.

Evelina London Children’s Hospital director Marian Ridley said: “Our expansion is vital to meet the growing demand for our specialist care.

“A bigger hospital will mean we can meet the needs of the sickest children with the most complex conditions from across the country.”

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust first announced the £250m expansion plans in July last year. Linkcity and the Trust collaborated with hospital staff, patients and families to develop the plans.

Designed by Hawkins\Brown Architects and Linkcity, the new building will have approximately 100 beds and nearly 20 more critical care beds.

Furthermore, new operating theatres, procedure rooms and imaging facilities will be added along with additional spaces for patients and families.

Building contractor Bouygues UK will deliver the plans. Bouygues UK’s prior work included the University College London Hospital proton beam therapy centre.

A new day surgery centre is being built adjacent to the existing Evelina hospital building.

The Evelina hospital is situated next to maternity, emergency department and other adult services at Guy’s and St Thomas’.
