Around 15 government-run hospitals in Delhi, India are set to be upgraded with civil and medicare infrastructure to boost healthcare services.

Following the upgrade, the healthcare facilities will be able to cater to the growing needs of patients.

Delhi Health Department top official told Press Trust of India (PTI): “We are seeking to boost healthcare facilities in the national capital. As a part of the project, 15 Delhi government hospitals are to be upgraded. This will include re-modeling of various buildings, increasing bed strength, augmenting medical care infrastructure, among other measures.”

Among the project that would be upgraded include the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash (LNJP) Hospital, LBS Hospital and Bhagwan Mahaveer Hospital.

According to the official, a “state-of-the-art” block will be constructed in the LNJP Hospital.

LNJP Hospital medical director Dr Kishore Singh said: “A new 22-storey gynae-pediatric-medicine block will be constructed as part of this government project. It will be a state-of-the-art facility, a tender process has begun.”

As part of the upgrade project at LNJP Hospital, an order has been placed for linear accelerator, which is used for cancer treatment, while the old OPD block’s casualty facility P will be renovated with addition of 57 beds, Singh added.

Recently, several medical bodies, including the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) held a country-wide strike, urging the Centre and state government to increase the doctor-patient ratio and to boost medical infrastructure in hospitals.

Health department senior officials told the news agency: “Besides the upgrade of existing facilities, three new, under-construction hospitals are in the final stages of the projects.”

The under-construction hospitals are a 600-bed hospital at Ambedkar Nagar, an 800-bed facility at Burari, and 1,500-bed hospital at Dwarka.
