The Government of British Columbia in Canada has selected Graham Design Builders for $217.75m Cariboo Memorial Hospital (CMH) redevelopment.

The company was selected as the project proponent from three shortlisted teams, following a competitive procurement process.

Graham Design Builders will now finalise a design early works agreement (DEWA), including detailed design of the project.

Following the execution of the DEWA, Graham Design Builders will now carry out negotiations for a design-build agreement to oversee construction of Cariboo Memorial Hospital redevelopment.

In the first phase of the redevelopment project, three stories will be added to the Cariboo Memorial Hospital campus, while the second phase will include renovations to the existing facility.

The project will feature a new emergency department and medical surgical unit, expanded ambulatory care and units for maternal and women’s health.

Other features will include a mental-health and substance-use inpatient unit addition, a multi-purpose gathering room and space for the University of British Columbia’s medicine programme faculty.

Furthermore, new parking stalls will be added to the site.

The provincial government and the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District will share the cost of the project.

A timeline for construction would be developed as detailed design work progresses and Phase 2 renovations will start after the addition to CMH concludes.
