Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction business Building & Factories has converted healthcare units, which are established or under-construction, across India into Covid-19 care facilities.
The company transformed healthcare infrastructure in New Delhi, Champaran and Madhepura in Bihar, Puducherry, Diamond Harbour in West Bengal and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

According to L&T, its construction arm is capable of building 300-bed hospitals in three to four months. The company can convert healthcare infrastructure, as well as establishments such as marriage halls, schools and hotel rooms to cater to Covid-19 patients.
L&T whole time director M V Satish said: “We have ace engineering and construction capabilities,yielding a fast turnaround of healthcare infrastructure for Covid-19 care.
“We will continue to accelerate our efforts to aid governments in providing prompt relief to citizens through critical healthcare infrastructure. Our hospitals business unit has been empowering several government agencies to build much needed healthcare infrastructure during this pandemic.”
The company transformed three floors of 850-bed Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi to care for Covid-19 patients. Currently, more portions of the hospital are being converted to cater to increasing cases.

By GlobalDataL&T also made quickly operational the ground floor and the first floor of the OPD block with 200 beds in the 700-bed Indira Gandhi Hospital, New Delhi. The 200 beds are meant for quarantine facility.
The company also completed the ground and first floors with 150 beds in the Government Medical Hospital in Champaran, Bihar as isolation wards for Covid-19 patients.
It is also converting a block of the 500-bed Government Medical College and Hospital in Madhepura, Bihar into a Covid-19 testing lab.
At JIPMER in Puducherry, the company converted 50 beds in the first floor as isolation wards and 100 beds in the second floor into a special ward.
In West Bengal Medical College, Diamond Harbour, West Bengal, and AIIMS Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, L&T is transforming a block into a Covid-19 testing lab.
