Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has partnered with System C, IMMJ Systems and Swiss Post Solutions (SPS) to digitise more than 220,000 medical records.

The project, which has commenced, will involve scanning of the 600-bed hospital’s medical records into the MediViewer Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) of IMMJ Systems.

Kettering noted that the project is in line with its ten-year digital transformation strategy, in collaboration with electronic patient records (EPR) supplier System C.

The goal is to improve patient care by providing clinicians with mobile clinical and decision-making support. This will be achieved by enhancing the flow of patients through the hospital and by complete digitisation of the patient record.

Kettering is deploying the MediViewer EDMS software as part of the digitisation project.

The software combines easily with System C’s Careflow EPR to enable the clinical-context introduction of the digitised record.

With the integrated platform, clinical and clerical users can view the entire history of individual patients visiting the hospital and can search the record for important clinical documents using the MediViewer SmartIndexing technology.

SPS received the contract to digitise all active patient records for the hospital.

Together, the solutions will offer safe and secure instant access to scanned medical records via the EPR.

MediViewer EDMS’s speed and design will facilitate clinical users to identify the key documentation required at the point of care. The software utilises its SmartIndexing technology to categorise data, enabling easy search.

Kettering General Hospital group chief digital information officer Andy Callow said: “Our ambition is to be the Most Digital Hospital Group in England by July 2023.

“Achieving that would mean clinicians are given excellent tools that give them back time to care, patients are in control of their treatment, managers have instant information to drive decision-making and all staff have access to amazing training and support.

“Starting to scan paper records at Kettering is something we’ve been looking forward to as it is a really important milestone on our journey.”

Apart from clinical benefits, the digitisation project is expected to help the hospital deliver cash releasing and operational efficiencies by deploying EDMS technology.
