UK-based construction group Kier Group has completed and handed over the new endoscopy unit to York Hospital.

The new two-storey unit has been developed on behalf of York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The new  unit, which has been constructed on top of York Hospital’s existing physiotherapy building,  intends to become one of the UK’s biggest and most advanced endoscopy units.

It increases the hospital’s current capacity for endoscopy services from three rooms to seven and is connected to the other building via a bridge on the first floor.

Kier Regional Building Northern managing director John O’Callaghan said: “Completing this project has seen us celebrate 15 years of working with the York Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. We’re delighted to have been a part of such a fantastic project and we look forward to seeing the unit opened to the public in September.”

Kier said the unit will enable the trust to considerably increase the number of endoscopy procedures it offers to accommodate increasing demand while enhancing the efficiency of the process and patient flow.
