Manukau Health Park in Auckland, New Zealand has secured $211.4m investment from the government to boost theatre and outpatient capacity.

The investment will add up to four new theatres and 20 recovery beds, along with a centralised sterile services unit and more than 40 new clinical outpatient spaces.

Manukau Health Park will also get a new radiology hub, breast screening service,  an expanded renal dialysis hub, new plant room/substations, medical gases, IT and parking.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said: “This investment will make a real difference to patients, whānau, visitors and staff. It will help improve the standard of key facilities and important health services at Counties Manukau.

“It will also enable the DHB to respond to the continued growing demand for services, and it will help deliver more equitable outcomes for South Aucklander.”

Counties Manukau Health DHB chair Vui Mark Gosche noted that the government has also approved additional $35m for recladding at Manukau Health Park and McIndoe building at Middlemore, as well as $20m for infrastructure work at Middlemore.

Gosche said: “The $211.4m allocated today for four new theatres and to establish CT and MRI diagnostics, expand breast and renal services and clinical outpatient spaces such as ophthalmology, is a significant response to current pressures and future growth.

““Having the additional services available in the future will lessen the impact on our community when such events happen. This funding will make an enormous difference to the level and quality of service we provide.”

The new development at the Manukau Health Park is said to be part of Counties Manukau Health’s site-wide initiative to bolster capacity with additional services.
