Colorado hospital joins Mayo Clinic Care Network

Aspen Valley Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital located in Colorado, has joined the Mayo Clinic Care Network, giving the facility's physicians and staff access to Mayo's research and expertise under the goal of improving local healthcare.

The Mayo Clinic Care Network is a collaboration between Mayo Clinic and select healthcare organisations around the country.

Aspen Valley Hospital is the first Colorado hospital to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network, which currently has members in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Dakota and Wisconsin as well as Puerto Rico and Mexico.

Aspen Valley Hospital interim CEO John Sarpa said that the hospital is honoured to be the first in Colorado selected to be a Mayo Clinic Care Network member.

"Sharing a common philosophy, commitment and mission to improve the delivery of healthcare through the use of best practices and evidence-based medical care provides a solid foundation for this collaboration," Sarpa added.

Mayo Clinic vice president and Arizona CEO Dr Wyatt Decker said: "It’s a pleasure to formalise this relationship with Aspen Valley Hospital."

As part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, physicians at Aspen Valley Hospital can consult with specialists at Mayo Clinic through several unique electronic tools.

eConsults allow providers to connect quickly with a Mayo Clinic specialist to get input on a specific question regarding patient care.

AskMayoExpert is an information resource from Mayo Clinic that covers disease management, care guidelines, treatment recommendations, and reference materials.

Aspen Valley Hospital medical staff president Dr Chris Beck said: "This collaboration with Mayo Clinic will enhance the outstanding care AVH physicians already provide."

Dr Barry Mink, president of the hospital’s board of directors and a member of its medical staff for 40 years, added: "Our small-town hospital provides a level of care one would expect in a major medical centre, and becoming a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network reflects our commitment to the highest standards of medical care for local residents and visitors to the area."
