Peel Health Campus in Western Australia has been upgraded its emergency department with an investment of $5m, and the launch of the improved facility is set for this February.

Western Australia Health Minister Roger Cook, who took a tour of the upgraded Peel Health Campus emergency department, said: “These fresh new facilities will deliver a better experience for the residents in the Peel region attending the emergency department. This investment continues to represent the Government’s commitment to the people in the Peel region to have access to essential and reliable emergency care close to home.”

Built by Devlyn Construction, the improved Peel Health emergency department is a part of the $10m upgrade allotted for Peel Health Campus.

The upgradation of Peel Health includes a new fast-track area for improved patient triage, reconfiguration of current triage area to facilitate early medical review for senior patients with privacy and comfort, privacy-focused holding bays for potential inpatient admissions, and seven more beds to the short stay unit to simplify patient flow from the emergency department.

Other upgrades include an overhauled nurse call system, bigger car parking area along with amplified security.

Mandurah MLA David Templeman remarked: “The McGowan Government is committed to transforming the Peel Health Campus. These works are very important improvements to the existing emergency department. I’m also particularly pleased the McGowan Government will bring our hospital back into public hands and massively expand our hospital, if re-elected, with a $152 million commitment.”

Western Australia’s McGowan Government had promised $152m last November, apart from the current investment, in order to end privatisation of the public hospital.

The state-run Peel Health Campus will allow co-use of on-site facilities for a private hospital, to ensure healthcare options are fully available for citizens of the Peel-Murray region.
