Post Acute Medical has announced plans to construct a 60-bed behavioral health hospital at Sugarland, Texas in the US. Construction will begin next month.

The organisation delivers post-acute health care services at 40 of its long-term acute care hospitals and medical rehabilitation hospitals, along with 17 outpatient physical therapy locations.

The new hospital will be Post Acute Medical’s first behavioral health facility.

Expected to be completed next year, the new behavioral health facility will provide inpatient medical as well as psychiatric care.

Post Acute Medical Clinical Innovation and Business Intelligence president Kristen Smith said: “We have come to recognise the importance of an integrated care model for individuals in need of medical and behavioral services who, until now, could not be effectively treated in one setting.

“With this unique model of care, Voyages of Sugar Land will address these patients’ comprehensive needs at once, helping them achieve sustainable, long-term health and wellness, while ultimately reducing the cost of care.”

The organisation’s CEO David Montgomery expects that the new hospital’s 200 employees will be able to serve hundreds of patients, when completely operational.

Montgomery noted: “Our integrated team of psychiatrists, internists, psychologists, social workers, and other specialists will provide comprehensive and coordinated short-term care tailored to the needs of each patient.

“The main care components will include diagnostic behavioral health evaluation, solution-focused treatment, behavioral strategies that include inpatient and partial hospitalisation, medication evaluation and management, intensive outpatient programs, and aftercare planning.”

Post Acute Medical’s Voyages division will involve its behavioral health facilities. The division will join PAM Rehabilitation Hospitals and PAM Specialty Hospitals under the organisation’s Traverse Health System.
