Tampa General Hospital (TGH) in the US has partnered with Dutch healthcare technology firm Royal Philips to upgrade technology and boost efficiency.

Under the seven-year agreement, the 1,006-bed hospital will gain early and ongoing access to the latest Philips solutions. This is expected to help provide improved care and also lower costs.

Philips will provide access to new technologies, including new software packages, healthcare informatics, workflow solutions and enhanced consulting.

Tampa General plans to replace all bedside patient and vital sign monitors across the hospital. Also, it will upgrade critical imaging equipment in the catheterisation laboratories and interventional radiology rooms.

In addition, Philips may offer a standardised platform that will enable a better overall view of the patient for doctors and clinicians to make informed decisions on diagnosis and care.

Royal Philips executive committee member Vitor Rocha said: “The relationship between TGH and Philips builds on a shared drive for innovation in healthcare – to deliver on the Quadruple Aim, break down the barriers between hospital and home and improve people’s lives.

“For us, the partnership is more than transactional. It means taking the time to truly understand their patients’ needs and suggest solutions that can address their workflow and service line needs today, while planning for tomorrow.”

Philips and Tampa General have invested more than 1,000 hours for technology replacement planning. The partners also conducted more than 400 clinical staff interviews to gain insights into improving the patient and staff experience.

In addition, Philips is working on a technology replacement plan, including deployment of cloud-based technologies such as Philips PerformanceBridge.

Tampa General will be able to integrate Philips solutions with its existing technologies.

In July this year, Flevo Hospital in the Netherlands entered a ten-year agreement with Philips to improve patient care in the Almere region.
