Wuhan, the epicentre of the Covid-19 outbreak in Hubei province of China, has closed 11 of 14 makeshift hospitals intended to cater to coronavirus infected patients.

The move comes as the number of cases in the country are steadily decreasing.
In mainland China, the total confirmed cases and recoveries stand at 80,735 and 58,600, respectively. On 8 March, 40 new cases and 22 deaths were reported in the region.
Hubei registered 36 new cases and 21 deaths on 8 March. All new infections were reported in Wuhan, along with majority of the new fatalities.
In the province, 1,422 new patients were released from hospital after recovering, including 1,163 in Wuhan.

By GlobalDataWuhan has been operating 14 makeshift hospitals since 05 February to cater to Covid-19 patients. The longest running facility was operational for 33 days and treated more than 12,000 patients.
As of 8 March, the city shut down 11 of the 14 makeshift hospitals, with their patients discharged or transferred to designated hospitals, reported state broadcaster CCTV.
Approximately 100 patients are being treated in the remaining three makeshift facilities, which are expected to close around 10 March.
China’s National Health Commission hospital management center deputy director Zhai Xiaohui was quoted as saying: “Nearly 10,000 beds have been emptied out at the designated hospitals. From now on confirmed cases will be sent to the designated hospitals first. If they cannot handle, the makeshift hospitals will reopen.”
China sent 415 psychological counselors to Hubei to provide mental counseling to patients and medical workers.
To date, the government had sent 346 medical teams with 42,600 medical staff to fight the outbreak in Hubei.
Globally, the Covid-19 death toll has reached 3,800, with more than 110,000 cases in 108 countries and 61,000 recoveries.
