The Wuhan city, which is the centre of the new coronavirus outbreak, has increased the number of hospitals to more than 40.

These designated hospitals, along with the two completed makeshift hospitals – Huoshenshan and Leishenshan, have a capacity of 12,000 hospital beds.

According to local authorities, these beds will be used to treat infected patients in severe and critical conditions.

The city also converted gyms and exhibition centres into seven temporary hospitals with 4,966 medical workers and 3,972 patients, as of the end of 12 February.

Huoshenshan, the 1,000-bed makeshift hospital completed within ten days, has admitted a total of 925 coronavirus patients. The first batch of patients arrived on 04 February.

All admitted patients were transferred from designated hospitals in Wuhan. At Huoshenshan, patients are receiving personalised treatment involving nutrition therapy, psychological counselling and rehabilitation training.

Meanwhile, Tongji Hospital in Wuhan, which is affiliated to the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, is set to provide 800 beds to cater to patients with severe coronavirus infection.
