Trinitas Regional Medical Center, a hospital in New Jersey, is to implement EDCO Health Information Solutions’ Solarity technology and indexing services for medical records scanned at patient discharge, along with its roll-out of an electronic document management system (EDMS).
Trinitas will begin scanning the portion of paper medical records to create a completely electronic medical record for improved patient care.
Using this model, clinical staff will be able to scan documents faster at the point of care, while maintaining the quality control achieved when records are indexed using a centralised approach.
EDCO’s scanning solution will provide the healthcare system with EDCO’s patented Solarity technology, and progress to meet the facility’s medical record scanning goals.
Trinitas will be able to leverage immediate benefits of Solarity technology to automatically index the document and perform a quality check in conjunction with its EMR and EDMS, following its implementation.
Solarity technology provides users with benefits, such as 99% or greater accuracy metrics and guaranteed 24-hour turnaround time.
Trinitas’s director of health information services Valdery Campos said it was critical to find a solution that digitised the paper component of the paper chart at discharge, without requiring hospital staff to manually index each document to the appropriate portion of the electronic chart or rely on antiquated technology, such as bar codes.
"Solarity will assist us in simplifying the scanning process and will provide physicians with the access they need to the patient chart when and where they need it," Campos added.
The partnership between EDCO and Trinitas was made possible with New Jersey Hospital Association’s (NJHA) collaborative efforts. The association’s strategic business programme features a collection of partners, such as EDCO.
To be featured in the programme, a business partner must undergo an extensive selection process to assure they are able to exceed expectations of New Jersey healthcare facilities.
New Jersey Hospital Association vice president Timothy Keough said the hospital is excited that Trinitas Regional Medical Center has chosen EDCO.
"Our partnership with EDCO enables NJHA Healthcare Business Solutions to provide our hospitals [with] improved patient care by eliminating complex challenges associated with current hybrid medical record environments," Keough added.
Trinitas Regional Medical Center is a Catholic teaching medical centre sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, in partnership with Elizabethtown Healthcare Foundation.
It offers a continuum of care, including cardiology, cancer, behavioural health, renal care, nursing education, diabetes management, wound healing and sleep medicine.
